What is OLS for Refugees?

Online Linguistic Support (OLS) is a free online language learning platform. From 2016 to 2019, the European Commission is offering 100,000 refugees and newly arrived migrants access to OLS, on a voluntary basis. The initiative aims to help them integrate better into society, by giving them the possibility to learn the local language.

What does it offer?

OLS gives refugees and migrants access to free online language courses. Refugees first determine their language level thanks to an online assessment. They can then access the OLS language learning platform for a maximum of thirteen months. OLS language courses include a wide range of modules covering different aspects of language, as well as interactive activities. Refugees can later take a second assessment to measure their progress.

Who is it for?

Refugees and newly arrived migrants can benefit from OLS for Refugees. NGOs providing support to refugees and migrants must contact the nearest institution participating in this initiative, provide an email address for the interested candidate and specify which language they wish to study.
